With recipes like Chicken Tikka Masala, Fish Amritsari & Aloo Gobi being popular the world over, these are mostly from the northern part of India, the cuisine from the South however is still waiting to be explored by the world, join me as I explore food, flavors and cultures of the South through my cooking and travel posts.
Of all the different types of food in the world, the South Indian coastal cuisine is one of my favorite. Here I plan on sharing both – inland and coastal cooking of the south. Born in the Indian state of Karnataka, I have roots in both the cultural capital of Mysore & the scenic coastal part of South Canara both renowned for their own unique identities that is evident in the variations in food, language and culture.
Growing up in Bengaluru, a city that attracts people from all over the country and a constant melting pot of different cultures, I’ve been lucky enough to experience firsthand the different cuisine on offer and develop a keen sense of appreciation for food.
In the past decade I’ve lived in Singapore, UK and the US sharpening my cooking skills every time I miss home. You may occasionally find a few recipes from other parts of India or the world too…these have been influenced by my travels and living in different parts of the world.
People have migrated across continents and have taken their beloved ingredients and recipes across the world for centuries… I’m always surprised by the differences and similarities of most traditional recipes globally. Try telling an Indian tomatoes originated in Spain and any form of chillies (red or green peppers) came from South America and they’ll get upset!! Surprising but true! As these ingredients have travelled centuries ago and found their spot as some of the most important ingredients in traditional recipes today.
Through this site, I hope to explore and share homemade mainly South Indian recipes through artistic pictures created at home and yes! I’ve cooked all the food shared here as well as styled the food to make them appealing to the eyes of the beholder. Here, you can find – perhaps healthy, cooked from scratch (mostly), traditional and some experimental recipes… And yes, all the pictures on this site have been taken by me not by a DSLR but by my humble smart phone 😉
My intention is to keep things simple, fast and accessible for all. No, I’m not a chef or a culinary specialist but an amateur, self taught, home cook. Not an expert by any means…
